Our name, “HOST,” stands for Helping Overseas Students Together. HOST also means “one who cares for guests”. We are Canadian ‘hosts’ who want to do everything we can to make our international guests feel welcome.
From working with international students for many years, we’ve found that many of our friends have not had a good experience studying English. It is our goal to make sure our students enjoy their studies and have a wonderful experience here in Canada. We believe we can provide the best teaching and care for our students at the best price.
Located at 236 Finch Avenue East, close to the Yonge Street subway, HOST International School is easy to reach for students living in the North York and downtown Toronto areas.
A school is only as good as its teachers. That’s why we take great care to choose teachers who are experienced, creative, and committed to doing everything to help students. We have a team of qualified, experienced, professional teachers who love to teach English. Our principal, Margery, has 8 years experience teaching all levels of English as a Second Language. She also teaches IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, and CAMBRIDGE exams. In addition, she offers free bible study classes to interested students. Her husband, Kevin, is a college English professor with 24 years teaching experience. He teaches ESL and regular English courses.
Our teachers will listen to you, discover your needs, and creatively adapt their teaching to help you learn English efficiently and enjoyably. One of our goals is to balance the mix of students so that we have students from different language backgrounds. Classes are small, lively and personal — with a maximum of 8 students.
HOST School partners with Liebenzell Canada, a Christian mission. Many young missionary couples come from Europe and Asia attend our school while preparing for service in Toronto’s multicultural churches. These students add a unique and varied experience that our other students really enjoy.
Outside the classroom, we are in partnership with International Student Ministries of Canada (ISMC) to offer activities where students can make friends, enjoy a variety of activities, learn about the Bible, and at the same time practice their English in a natural, fun and friendly way. Through this experience, lasting friendships can also develop and flourish.
While studying and visiting in Canada, some students want to experience living with a Canadian family who loves to serve international students by providing a home away from home. This is called a homestay. We do our own homestay placement and take great care in matching the host family and student so that both will have a rewarding experience. Homestays include a private bedroom and three meals a day. This is an excellent way to learn the English language and understand Canadian culture. The homestay family is carefully selected for safety, practicality, and compatibility.
HOST International School promises to keep your studies and stay in Toronto a pleasurable and memorable experience.
