Canadian High School University Preparation
HOST offers a special 25 hour per week program designed for junior high school students—13 & 14 years of age—who wish to transfer to a Canadian high school. HOST works in cooperation with The Yorkland School, an excellent private high school. Ninety-five percent of Yorkland graduates continue in college or university. Many foreign students attend Yorkland to receive a quality education that enables them to enter Canadian or American universities without having to take the TOEFL. HOST School provides English upgrading for those students who need to improve their skills before acceptance in Yorkland. Yorkland offers a great athletic program that includes swimming (school has 25 meter pool); tennis; football (soccer); basketball and much more.
IELTS / TOEFL / TOEIC/Cambridge English Exam, Test Preparation
HOST ensures results by combining reading, writing, and listening skills lessons with regular practical test-taking strategies to help you achieve your highest possible IELTS / TOEFL / TOEIC score.
TOEFL iBT – Test of English as a Foreign Language
The preparation course is an intensive review for the TOEFL. This is NOT an ESL general English course. This course reviews vocabulary words commonly found in the exam, practices reading and listening comprehension, listening, memorization, and speed-reading techniques that will help raise your scores on the exam. The course teaches essay writing and essays are corrected individually. We recommend, in addition to the prep course, that students join a free public speaking club, which will greatly improve their scores in spoken English. The course involves 160 academic hours (teaching time and lab work) plus three mock tests.
TOEIC – Test of English for International Communication
Our TOEIC preparation program gives students the skills, strategies, practice and confidence they need to increase their scores on the TOEIC exam. This program is designed for students who want an intensive focus on all areas of English communication skills – reading, writing, listening, speaking, idioms, and grammar. Students will learn the tips and test taking strategies that will help them succeed on the TOEIC test.
CAMBRIDGE EXAMS:
FCE – First Certificate in English and CAE – Cambridge Advanced English Test Preparation Courses.
We have an 80% success rate for the candidates who have taken our preparation course in the past five years. HOST ensures results by combining English reading and writing, listening and speaking skills lessons with regular practice tests. Test taking strategies are emphasized.
IELTS – International English Language Testing System
This course will examine in-depth each of the four modules of the IELTS test and will discuss strategies to better prepare for the final examination. This test is intended for candidates planning to use English for academic purposes – university admissions – or for immigration.
Summer/Winter Special Youth Program
Our youth programs, Youth Program1 and Youth Program2 are designed to provide the perfect balance of education and adventure. Daily intensive English classes focus on students’ oral English, reading, writing, and comprehension. Class outings give students the opportunity to discover Toronto and Ontario, try exciting new experiences, and develop lasting friendships. Many optional evening and weekend activities, led by a HOST activity leader, are also available.
